Vanha kirkko/An Old Church

Keuruun vanha kirkko täyttää 250 vuotta tänä vuonna.

This beautiful old church dates back to the year 1758.

Jopa kirkon katto on mestariteos.

Even the roof of the church reminds us of the unsurpassed mastership of the church builders of the 18th century.

Iso-Valkonen

Tämä vanha 21 m pitkä ja keskileveydeltään kaksimetrinen kirkkovene on nimeltään Iso-Valkonen ja sitä säilytetään Keuruun Vanhan kirkon pihamaalla hyvin katettuna. Se on valmistunut vuonna 1879 ja ollut aluksi tervattu.

This 21-meter-long rowing boat is called Iso-Valkonen (Big White) and it is kept well sheltered (the picture below) in the church yard of the Keuruu Old Church. Central Finland is full of lakes and people used to go to church by boat in summertime. This particular boat was built in 1879 and she did not get its name until later when it was painted white.

Kuin kuvastimesta / Like in a Mirror

Kun kävelee yhtä kaupunkimme rännikaduista alas satamaa kohti, oikealle jää vihreä kerrostalo. Tarkoituksenani oli kuvata se, mutta yllätyksekseni se peilasi kuvaan vastapäisen talon. Aina ei arvaa mitä tulee kuvattua. Vihreä on muuten lempivärini.

If you take one walking street from the City Square down to the harbour you pass a high green building. Its walls are like mirrors. I didn´t realise that until having acquired this unlucky shot of the green house from the memory card. There must be some trick I do´t know to capture the green house. Green is my favourite colour.

Väriä elämään / Colour my World

Tänään on ollut pilvistä ja sateista koko päivän. Aurinko on näyttäytynyt tänä keväänä vain muutamana päivänä, esim. laskiaissunnuntaina.

Where has the sun gone? It has been snowing and sleeting all day long. We haven´t had sunshine since Feb 3rd when this picture was taken. Or have I missed something?

Konttilan pihapiiri.

In the early 1900s there were several tens of houses at the Puijo hill. Konttila is about a hundred years old crof and yard. The first known farmer was Konttinen, so that’s why this small farm house is called ”Konttila”. The yard consists of three buildings: crof, granary and cow-shed. All buildings are open daily from 10am to 5pm except Mondays and during private excursions for groups.

Latu kiertää alas Antikkalaan. Tosin harvoin enää maaliskuun loppupuolella. Täällä on vanhempia kuvia Puijolta.

Pretty steep hills take you quickly down to the Antikkala Slope.

Kun elämämme laitetaan pakettiin, siitä jää jäljelle oikeastaan vain muistot ja unelmat. (Katsoin eilen TV:stä Prisman Elämä paketissa (Human Footprint)-ohjelman). Muistoja olen tänne blogiin tallentanut paljonkin. Laitan nyt sadepäivänä unelman... Pirteää keväänkeltaista kaikille kurkkijoille!

What is our footprint like? As to me, it is only memories and dreams that count. I have shared o lot of my memories in this blog. Today I want to share an invigorating dream of a better spring with all of you.

Lista / A List (Valokuvatorstai)

"Istuudun penkille tarkastelemaan listaa. Arvioin sitä pitkään. Lista on rehellinen. Olen tyytyväinen siihen. Kenties etsimäni esine on olemassa, kenties ei. Se ei ole kovin tärkeää. Mutta lista on tärkeä. Sillä huomiolla on minulle merkitystä. Se on todella arvokas."

Valokuvatorstain 82. haaste on edellinen katkelma Erlend Loen teoksesta Supernaiivi. Aihe on vaikea. Oheinen lista lienee ainakin naiivi. Mutta, ah, niin tärkeä ja arvokas. Olisi ollut ruokalista, blogilista, lattialista, ostoslista, puutelista, vuorolista, lääkelista, leikkauslista...

The theme for this week´s Photo Thursday is a short text from a book called Naiv. Super. by a Norwegian writer Erlend Noe. It´s about an important list. This list of mine is a list of old Finnish popular songs. Handwritten in the late thirties. Not by me though. :)
